Kyosiga Community Christian Association for Development (KACCAD)
is a registered Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that was established
in 1994. Since its inception KACCAD's
goal has been to improve the standard
of living of its members through supporting
income generating activities, skill development, primary and secondary
education for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), HIV/AIDS/health
support and sensitization.
KACCAD was originally started as a women's development group. It
has since expanded to meet the needs of other vulnerable community
members. KACCAD is especially committed to serving and empowering
OVCs, women, people from child-headed households, women headed households,
people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, and those with disabilities.
The core strength of KACCAD is its excellent understanding of the
communities it serves and its practical approach to finding solutions
to community problems. This strength is rooted in the fact that
KACCAD's volunteer staff are part of these same communities.
The organization depends on the expertise of full time personnel
and other technical and part time support. The expertise available
as of May 2007 include: HIV/AIDS and health educator from Peace
Corps, accounts person, administrator, construction and carpentry
experts, marketing person, medical doctor, and an agricultural economist.
KACCAD also is supported by the local governments of Wakiso and
Mpigi Districts, partnerships with 25 community based organizations
in these districts, international organizations, private donors
and international volunteers.
KACCAD is a community based organization with fulltime and part-time
volunteer staff. Primary staff members live in Wakiso district but
still other volunteers live in the US, UK, Germany, Sweden and Ireland.
The Board of Directors is made up of five people including the Executive
Director. The Executive Director is overseen by the Board of Directors.
In turn, the Executive Director oversees and works hand in hand
with the organization volunteer staff.
The group works as a team to conduct projects with staff members
taking on many related roles such as financial management, proposal
writing and community outreach. A small staff leads to quick decision
making and action. Decisions are primarily made by the volunteer
staff and Executive Director through a consensus process: where
the group reached a unanimous decision on matters pertaining to
projects. The Board of Directors is called on if the staff of the
organization are unable to come to consensus or it the staff needs
other support.
